Presto Engineering now an HDMI and HDCP Authorized Test Center in Europe

November 18, 2013

The company’s facility in Caen, France is one of 12 ATCs worldwide and the only one in Europe.

CAEN, FRANCE,  — Presto Engineering, Inc., a world leader in back-end turn-key services, announced today that its Caen Normandy Hub has been recognized by the High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) consortium as an Authorized Test Center (ATC). Presto Engineering can now certify compliance of its clients’ products with the HDMI standard-the de facto audio/video standard for the high-speed connection between high-definition audio/video products. Presto’s France-based facility is one of 12 HDMI ATCs worldwide, and the only one in Europe.

“This new activity is part of our continuing investment in test services that support the cost-effective deployment of advanced communication solutions demanded by high bandwidth fixed and mobile devices,” said Philippe Laban, Presto Engineering’s vice president and general manager, Europe. “It strengthens global test capabilities and makes our hub in Caen a focal point for advanced development in Europe.”

Presto acquired the ATC from NXP Semiconductors. Laban emphasized, “In acquiring the activity, we took care to also preserve and transfer the knowledge and expertise gathered by the NXP HDMI and HDCP compliance testing team since the lab opened eight years ago. This can provide important benefits to our customers in supporting their debug towards compliance.”

The HDMI specification combines uncompressed high-definition video, multi-channel audio, and data in a single digital interface to provide crystal-clear digital quality over a single cable. HDMI certification encompasses the complete evaluation of electrical performance and protocol compliance in all categories of HDMI products: transmitters, receivers, repeaters and cables, including optional features such as 3D, 4k, Consumer Electronics Control (CEC), Audio Return Channel (ARC), HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC), and Automotive interface.

Presto Engineering’s HDMI ATC is able to execute compliance testing up to HDMI 1.4b specification, and will be extending its capability to the newest HDMI v2.0 released in September 2013. To offer a complete compliance solution for HDMI products, Presto Engineering has also become a High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection Authorized Test Center (HDCP ATC). HDCP is a protocol that ensures that the Audio and Video data transmitted across HDMI cables are protected against copying.
