Presto Engineering Extends HDMI Test Capabilities

October 2, 2014

Addition of new test solution from Tektronix expands test capability and capacity as industry rolls out HDMI 2.0 for 4K Ultra HD displays

SAN JOSE, Calif.,  —Presto Engineering, Inc., the only European Authorized Test Center (ATC) to deliver HDMI & HDCP product compliancy certificates, announced today their selection of the new Tektronix HDMI 2.0 solution to extend their HDMI test capabilities. In addition to the acquisition of the recently-released Tektronix HDMI platform, Presto Engineering will work jointly with Tektronix to expand its test coverage on high-speed serial bus interfaces, including: USB 3, PCI express, Ethernet 40G, DDR, and more.

HDMI 2.0, the successor to the widely adopted HDMI 1.4b standard, is designed to meet the bandwidth requirements of forthcoming Ultra HD or 4K televisions while using existing cabling for backward compatibility. It significantly increases bandwidth to 18Gbps and adds features such as 32 audio channels and simultaneous delivery of video and audio streams to multiple users. As with previous HDMI versions, compliance and debug test solutions are critical to ensure successful implementation of the specification.

“Our ATC service continues to use ‘best in class’ test equipment and methodologies that are fully accredited by the HDMI and HDCP Consortium,” commented Philippe Laban, Vice President General Manager of Presto Engineering Europe. “We are delighted to bring our experience together with Tektronix’s test & measurement expertise to better serve our customers’ increasing needs in troubleshooting high-speed digital designs.”

According to Brian Reich, general manager Performance Oscilloscopes, Tektronix, “As a contributor to the HDMI 2.0 test specification and one of the leading providers of HDMI test solutions globally, Tektronix is uniquely qualified to help customers bring Ultra HD/4K televisions and other HDMI 2.0 certified products to market.” He adds, “We selected Presto Engineering’s European HDMI Authorized Test Center to enable our customers to have access to their broad range of capabilities in high speed digital testing using our HDMI 2.0 compliance test solution.”

The Tektronix HDMI 2.0 solution consists of high-performance hardware and integrated software, fully supporting all physical layer testing for source and sink devices as well as cables. The full solution includes MSO/DPO/70000 series real-time oscilloscope, HDMI compliance testing software, leading edge AWG70000 series arbitrary waveform generators, DSA8300 sampling oscilloscope for time domain reflectometry (TDR), IConnect software for serial data network analysis, and test fixtures. Compared to alternatives, the Tektronix HDMI 2.0 test solution reduces test set-up complexity through the use of a new automation framework for transmitter testing and a direct synthesis approach for receiver testing, eliminating the need for additional equipment such as cable emulators and noise stressors.
